ABUJA, Nigeria — The Nigeria Police Force has officially responded to viral comments made by social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, demanding that he provide concrete evidence to substantiate claims of police involvement in highway abductions.
The reaction follows remarks delivered by Otse at the recent Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt, where he alleged that police officers stationed at highway checkpoints relay sensitive information about wealthy travelers to kidnappers and bandits.
In an official statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, on Thursday, August 27, 2026, the police authority rejected the allegations as unsubstantiated and damaging to the institution’s reputation. The statement emphasized that officers deployed to checkpoints work under dangerous conditions to combat crime, with many losing their lives in ambushes by the same criminal elements.
The police leadership stressed that while individual officers found guilty of misconduct face internal discipline and legal prosecution, sweeping public accusations demoralize personnel serving with integrity. The Force Headquarters formally invited Otse to present his evidence for immediate investigation, warning that unsubstantiated claims erode public trust and undermine national security operations.
