Firefighters from the Anambra State Fire Service on Monday battled a fire outbreak that engulfed a commercial plaza within the popular Electrical Market in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Media and Publicity Unit of the Anambra State Fire Service, which said emergency responders were immediately mobilised to the scene following a distress call.
According to the statement, the emergency call was received at about 4:40 p.m. on August 3, after which firefighters were promptly deployed to the affected area along the Onitsha-Owerri Road.
The agency explained that its personnel immediately commenced operations aimed at containing the inferno and preventing it from spreading to adjoining shops and other structures within the bustling commercial area.
Although the exact cause of the incident had yet to be ascertained as of the time of filing the report, the Fire Service assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the outbreak.
The statement further noted that firefighting operations were still ongoing at the time the report was released, as emergency personnel continued efforts to minimise damage and bring the situation under control.
The Fire Service also appealed to traders, residents and other members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with emergency responders to ensure the smooth execution of rescue and firefighting operations.
It further urged the public to promptly report any fire incident to enable swift intervention and reduce the risk of extensive damage.
The agency assured that additional information regarding the incident would be made available as events unfold.
