ABUJA, Nigeria — The political media war surrounding the Nigerian Senate has taken a sharp turn as UK-based Nigerian commentator Dr. Sandra Chidinma Duru, popular online as “Prof. Mgbeke,” launched a bitter public tirade against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

In a series of posts on her verified Facebook page, Duru lashed out at Akpabio and his associates, declaring an end to her involvement in their political battles and threatening a full-scale public exposure.

The Catalyst Behind the Public Fallout

The feud erupted following reports attributed to a blogger, Hamza Lamisi, citing the Head of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit, DCP Fakorede. Lamisi claimed Akpabio had declined to grant Duru an appointment, allegedly warning security operatives to distance themselves from her and labeling her “deranged” and “bipolar”:

  • Targeting Akpabio’s Family: Infuriated by the circulating statements, Duru directly addressed the Senate President, redirecting the derogatory remarks toward his first daughter, Iniabasi Akpabio, calling her an “emotionally unstable fat thing” and rejecting the characterizations applied to herself.
  • Ultimatum for Retraction: Duru demanded that Hamza Lamisi either issue a public apology and retract the comments or prove that he accurately reported statements made by security officials acting on Akpabio’s directive.
  • Rejection of Political Maneuvers: Disavowing further participation in state politics, Duru asserted: “I am not a part of your people’s dirty politics at all!… You can’t use me to play dirty Nigerian politics at all!”

Threats of a ‘Return Match’

The fallout marks a dramatic shift in the ongoing political feud involving Kogi Central lawmaker Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan:

  • Previous Alignment: Duru had previously released audio recordings accusing Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan of attempting to orchestrate a smear campaign against Akpabio—claims that the suspended lawmaker vehemently denied, alleging Duru was merely executing a script written by Akpabio’s camp.
  • Promised Exposé: Switching stances, Duru warned Akpabio and his allies to prepare for a “RETURN MATCH,” declaring that she intends to open her own channels to lay out “messier battles with facts.”

Neither the Office of the Senate President nor the Nigeria Police Force Monitoring Unit has issued a formal response to Duru’s latest social media statements.
