The just concluded local government election in Anambra state has been described as a litmus test for the 2027 general election in the area and a dress rehearsal for the All Progressives Grand Alliance( APGA )victory ahead.
To this end, the party in the state has received more tonic towards sustaining it’s winning ways as the State and National Assembly candidates square up with other political parties.
State Chairman of APGA , Chief Ifeatu Obi-Okoye while analysing the outcome of the last Saturday Council election noted that other political parties now know that they would surely lose their deposits in the 2027 general elections adding that with the results of the said election, they stand no chance .
“The outcome of the local government election is an empathetic signal to other political parties that they stand no chance in 2027 “
“The first signal was when those parties could not field candidates for the 21 local government areas of Anambra state and not even Councillorship candidates”
“The victory of our party in that election goes to show that we are not only firm on ground but also fully in charge because as Mr Governor said at the Anambra East local government rally , Anambra is APGA and APGA is Anambra”
Obi-Okoye dismissed the boast of the Nigeria Democratic Congress ( NDC) that with the Presidential candidacy of Mr Peter Obi they are good to go contending that politics is localized adding that the last general election bandwagon effects would surely not play out in 2027 general elections .
“For those who are green horns in politics, they have gone to sleep with that primordial notion that last four years election would be same with 2027 , they lose sight of the fact that politics is localized “
“It is all about capacity and formidable structures on the ground and we don’t win elections through social media or name dropping and making unsubstantiated bogus claims when there is a party on the ground”
Obi-Okoye asked why the NDC could not field candidates in the local government election despite what he described as the empty boast of the party about their Presidential candidate..
“They are boasting that with their Presidential candidate all is well yet they could not field candidates for the local government election and that is what we call day dreaming of an infinitacimal minority that is uninformed about the trappings of politics and it’s dynamics ” he said.
