The Ohaigbo Community Development Initiative, OCDI, has reaffirmed its commitment to empower Igbo youths through community development programmes and the establishment of skill acquisition centres across the South-East to create sustainable employment opportunities.
The Founder and National President of OCDI, Hon. Amb. Jonathan David Okwudiri, made this known in Awka, Anambra State, during the organization’s 1st National Executive Summit held over the weekend.
He expressed concern over the rising rate of unemployment among youths in the South-East, noting that many are idle due to lack of meaningful opportunities.
Okwudiri clarified that OCDI is a non-political and non-separatist organization focused solely on development, unity, and youth empowerment. He charged State Coordinators in the five South-East states of Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Abia, and Ebonyi to mobilize youths in their domains to key into the initiative as a strategy for crime reduction and economic growth.
He further urged members to return to their communities to sensitize the people and expand membership in order to harness the full potential of the initiative.
In a bid to strengthen the organization, the National President announced leadership changes at national and state levels, citing laxity and absenteeism. He warned that any officer at national, state, LGA or community level who demonstrates poor work attitude or absenteeism without genuine reason will be removed in the interest of the organization’s progress.
The Anambra State Coordinator, Comrade Omaram Sunny Chibuzor, and his counterparts from Enugu, Imo, Abia, and Ebonyi states, commended the founder for the initiative and pledged to mobilize youths in their states to benefit from the programme.
