ABUJA — Senator Adams Oshiomhole has fiercely defended his recent actions on the floor of the National Assembly, accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio and fellow lawmakers of ganging up against him during a heated debate over the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
The Edo North Senator and former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) insisted that his passionate outburst during the plenary session was born out of provocation and a solitary commitment to fighting systemic corruption.
The confrontation reportedly erupted during a legislative review of NNPCL operations, where Oshiomhole’s aggressive push for absolute transparency was met with fierce resistance and procedural pushback from the Senate leadership and colleagues.
“I stand alone to say no to corruption,” Oshiomhole declared. “I acted under provocation to defend all of us.”
Insiders within the red chamber revealed that the Senate leadership viewed Oshiomhole’s stance as a breach of parliamentary decorum, leading to a coordinated effort to shut down his line of questioning. In response, Oshiomhole maintained that his reaction was necessary to safeguard the interests of ordinary Nigerians who bear the brunt of unaddressed institutional corruption.
The public spat has exposed widening cracks within the ruling party’s legislative caucus, as lawmakers split over whether to enforce strict legislative etiquette or support the former governor’s blunt approach to oversight functions.
