BIU, BORNO STATE – Captain Muhammad Tukur Buratai, son of former Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd), has officially entered the race for the Borno State House of Assembly.
The younger Buratai purchased his All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination forms this week to contest the Biu Constituency seat in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Before picking up the documents, the Captain met with his father to formally seek his blessing and guidance. The retired General reportedly gave his son his full support, urging him to prioritise the welfare and security of the people of Biu.
Local supporters have welcomed the move, noting that the Buratai name carries significant weight in Southern Borno. As a former military officer himself, Muhammad Tukur is being positioned by his camp as a candidate who brings both discipline and a fresh perspective to state-level governance.
With the purchase of the forms, the race for the Biu seat is expected to be one of the most closely watched contests in the state, as the younger Buratai seeks to transition from military service to a career in the legislature.
