ABUJA — Investigators probing an alleged conspiracy to topple the administration of President Bola Tinubu have uncovered a financial trail totaling ₦835 million, linked to two private companies.
Intelligence sources close to the investigation reveal that the funds were purportedly used to bankroll the logistics of the plot, marking the most definitive evidence of a financial backbone for the move against the Presidency.
The Financial Evidence
The investigation has centered on two firms used as conduits to move massive sums of cash intended for the operation:
- Purple Waves Limited:Â A construction company based in Abuja, which investigators claim was used to process the bulk of the funds. The company’s secretary has reportedly been taken into custody for questioning.
- Bureau De Change Links: The ₦835 million was allegedly moved through various Bureau De Change (BDC) operators to obscure the origin of the money before it reached the coordinators of the plot.
Scope of the Conspiracy
The plot, which security agencies claim has been under surveillance for months, involved a coordinated plan to destabilize the government.
- Assassination Targets:Â Reports indicate that high-ranking officials, including the President, Vice President, and the leadership of the National Assembly, were listed as targets.
- Military Involvement:Â Over 40 suspects, including active-duty military officers, are currently in detention. Security forces have also recovered a cache of weapons and dozens of vehicles allegedly prepared for the operation.
Persons of Interest
While several key suspects remain at large, including high-profile political figures and a retired military general, investigators confirm that international tracking is underway. One primary suspect is believed to have fled to South America, prompting a cross-border manhunt involving INTERPOL.
Government officials have maintained a tight lid on the full identity of all financiers, but the Nigerian Military is expected to convene a judicial panel to try those currently in custody.
