From Mohammed Nasir Shuaibu BAUCHI
The Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) is set to undergo a major transformation following the approval of a comprehensive upgrade of its state secretariat by Governor Bala Mohammed.
According to a statement issued by the Council Secretary, Isah Garba Gadau, the governor has approved the renovation and modernization of the NUJ Secretariat located along Ahmadu Bello Way, as well as the construction of a state-of-the-art conference hall aimed at boosting the union’s operational capacity.
The upgrade also includes the installation of a solar power system to ease the energy challenges faced by journalists working from the centre.
The intervention comes at a critical time, as the NUJ Secretariat had fallen into severe disrepair, with journalists consistently calling for structural improvements to create a more conducive working environment.
The NUJ described the approval as a fulfilment of Governor Mohammed’s earlier promise to uplift the press centre, commending his commitment to press welfare, media development, and the professional well-being of journalists in the state.
While expressing gratitude, the union pledged to use the upgraded facility responsibly and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the state government’s development agenda through ethical and responsible journalism.
The council noted that the gesture will significantly enhance the productivity and morale of media practitioners in Bauchi State.
