In a bold move to ensure accountability and value for public funds, the Bauchi State Government has issued a stern warning to all road contractors handling various projects across the state, demanding strict adherence to quality standards and timelines — or risk contract termination.

The warning was delivered during a routine inspection tour of ongoing road construction projects led by His Excellency Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed. The Governor expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace and substandard work on some project sites, stressing that the current administration under PDP is committed to infrastructure that will stand the test of time.

“We will not condone any form of negligence or substandard delivery,” Governor Bala said. “Contractors must understand that public funds are involved, and Bauchi people deserve quality roads that will improve transportation, boost economic activities, and enhance their overall well-being.”

According to the Commissioner Ministry Of Works, the state government has invested heavily in road construction as part of its broader infrastructure development strategy. He emphasized that any contractor who fails to meet the required specifications and deadlines will not only face contract termination but could also be blacklisted from future government engagements.

The Commissioner Prof Titus also disclosed that the ministry has deployed monitoring teams across project sites to ensure compliance with engineering standards and contractual obligations.

“The era of collecting mobilization funds and abandoning work is over,” he added. “This administration is driven by transparency, performance, and results.”

This development has been widely welcomed by residents and civil society groups who have long called for stricter oversight of public contracts. Many believe the government’s firm stance will help curb the recurring problem of poorly executed infrastructure projects in the state.

The Government concluded by urging contractors to view their engagement not merely as business transactions, but as a service to the people of Bauchi State.

As the dry season progresses — a crucial period for road construction — all eyes will be on the contractors to deliver results that match the government’s renewed focus on quality and accountability.
