No fewer than 197 suspected criminals are cooking their heels at the Bompai Police Headquarters, Kano for their involvement in various crimes across the state.
According the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Habu Sani, the suspects were arrested at various locations across the state between March and May this year.
He noted that those paraded allegedly committed crimes ranging from kidnapping, fraud, armed robbery, drug trafficking, car theft, among other crimes.
According to him, “this is part of the successes recorded by Kano State Police Command in its crime fighting efforts despite the on-going Covid-19 engagements.
“These achievements are as a result of the strategies in our crime fighting efforts and the support of the formed Area Command Community Policing Advisory Committees (ACPAC), Local Government Community Policing Advisory Committees (LGCPAC) as well as the Divisional Community Policing Committees (DCPC) which led to the utilization of Special Constabularies *in Policing the State.
“To this end, One Hundred and Ninety Seven (197) suspects were arrested from 11th March, 2020 to date.”
He added that those arrested include 12 armed robbery suspects, five kidnapping suspects, 10 fraudsters, 115 thugs.
Habu said seven motor vehicles/tricycles thieves were arrested, while four motor vehicles, two tricycles, seven motorcycles and two bicycles were recovered from them.
According to him, four drugs dealers were arrested while 162 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp valued at N810,00.00 and 11 cartons of Codeine Expectorant valued at N935,000.00 were recovered.
He further stated that 45 GSM Handsets were recovered, six assorted Arms were recovered including, One AK 47 Rifle with 30 rounds of live Ammunitions, two Pump Action Guns with 321 Live Cartridges, One Double Barrel Gun with 66 Pellets Live Ammunitions and two locally made guns were recovered.
He stated that 132 Knives, 27 Machetes, 28 Clubs (Gora) were also recovered.
According to him, “On the 10/03/2020 at about 2030hrs, the Command’s tactical team of Operation Puff Adder while acting on credible information arrested two suspects who specialized in defrauding people with fake bank alert. During investigation, the suspects freely confessed to have defrauded one Suleiman Ali Mohammed ‘m’ 40 years old of Makera in Kakuri area of Kaduna State and the sum of fifty thousand naira (N50,000:00k).
” They also defrauded the manager of Rayhan Hotel Kano by fake bank alert, the sum of forty four thousand naira (N44,000:00k) for four days lodging. Suspects were charged to court for prosecution. Also, on the 24/03/2020 at about 1340hrs based on credible intelligence, the Command’s tactical team of Operation Puff Adder arrested one Usman Mu’azu ‘m’ 18 years old of Sharada quarters in connection with a case of criminal conspiracy and cyber crime.
“During investigation, the suspect freely confessed that on the 19/03/2020 at about 1123hrs, he defrauded one Abubakar Malo ‘m’ Kano State, the sum of One Hundred and Five Thousand Naira (N105, 000:00k) through a fake transaction Bank alert.
“The suspect also bought five thousand naira (N5000) MTN recharge card to three different GSM numbers. Three other suspects were arrested and confessed to be members of his gang. Suspects were charged to court for prosecution.
“On the 10/03/2020 at about 0230hrs one Emeka Eboyi ‘m’ and Ezegwu reported at Ajingi Division that one Lawali ‘m’ and four (4) others now at large conspired and entered into his House and took him to his Shop, robbed him the sum of Three Hundred and Eighty Thousand Naira (N380,000:00k) and five assorted GSM handsets valued One Hundred and Fifty One Thousand Naira (N151,000:00k).
” On receipt of the complaint, the Command’s Tactical Team of Operation Puff Adder swung into action and arrested the principal suspect, one Lawali. Suspect freely confessed to the crime and mentioned his accomplice. They were arrested and charged to court for prosecution.
“Also, on the 16/03/2020 at about 1400hrs, based on credible information, the Command’s Tactical Team of Operation Puff Adder received a distress call from one Abdu Sule ‘m’ of Rijiyar Zaki Quarters Kano that after withdrawing money at Bayero University, Kano (BUK) old side, on his way back, he noticed one Mercedes Benz Car Ash in Colour and a Motorcycle trailing him. He managed to escape to his office. To his amazement, some people still trailed him and stood in a suspicious manner.
“On receipt, the Team responded promptly. The sighting the presence of Police, the driver of the Mercedes Benz Motor Vehicle attempted to escape and was chased. Later, the suspect one Naziru Labaran ‘m’ aged 38 years old of Danbare Quarters Kano was arrested along Audu Bako Way Kano where he knocked down a Tricyclist in a bid to escape. Suspect was identified as a notorious criminal who specialized in removing Car/Tricycle/motorcycle from park.
“A fabricated False Key was recovered from him. Suspect also confessed to have participated in series of Armed Robbery and Car snatching.
‘On the 05/04/2020 at about 0200hrs, based on credible information, the Command tactical team of Operation Puff Adder arrested a notorious armed robbery suspect one Ibrahim Musa a.k.a “Abba Bross” ‘m’ 22 years old of Sharada Quarters Kano. During investigation, the suspect confessed to have participated in series of Armed Robbery operation, Rape and Snatching of Tricycles and Motorcycles within Kano Metropolitan, he also mentioned four (4) persons as members of his syndicate. They were all arrested and charged to court for prosecution.
“Also, on the 19/03/2020 at about 0730hrs, based on credible information, the Command tactical team of Operation Puff Adder arrested one Abdulrahman Saminu ‘m’ aged 29 years old and one Abdulkadir Dalha ‘m’ aged 33 years both of Sheka Quarters Kano. On spot search in the premises of the suspects one hundred and fifty two (152) live cartridges were recovered inside a scrap air condition panel.
“On same date, one Alhaji Saminu Ibrahim was arrested in possession of one (1) Pump Action Rifle with bridge No. PF21340. During the course of investigation one of the suspects named Alhaji Saminu Ibrahim led the operatives to Lagos where they recover One Pump Action Gun with One Hundred and Sixty Nine (169) live cartridges and a Double Barrel Gun with Sixty Six (66) live pellet Ammunitions inside the house of the said suspects. Suspects were charged to court for prosecution.
“One Hundred and Fifteen (115) Thugs (‘Yan-Daba) were arrested after intelligence-led raids were conducted within the State where large number of weapons and illicit drugs were recovered. All suspects were charged to court for prosecution.
Habu added that he remained grateful to the good people of Kano State for their cooperation in driving Community Policing further to the grass root, thereby making Kano peaceful and a shining example among others.
