The Speaker of the eight Assembly, House of Representative Right Honorable Yakubu Dogara has distributed food items worth millions of naira for Ramadan and as palliative for Covid 19 to members of his constituency.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of the Distribution Committee, Honorable Aminu Tukur at the weekend.
He said the items were meant to ameliorate the hardship faced by the beneficiaries, most especially at this difficult moments of Covid-19 pandemic that have ravaged the world economic
Honorable Tukur who listed the items tas follows, 3,200 bags of 10kg rice, 3200 bags of 10kg maize flour, 600 cartons of spaghetti and 100 bags of sugar.
He noted that muslims communities will get 60 percent of the commodities while 40 percent is going to the Christian community in the three Local Governments Areas that form his constituency.
He pointed out that the former Speaker instructed that Muslim community in the three LGAs be given 60 percent of the food stuffs while the Christian community is to get 40 percent because of Ramadan fast.
According to him, Tafawa Balewa LGA, Muslim community got 50 percent of the items, Dass LGA, 30 percent whereas, Muslims in Bogoro were given 15 percent, adding that the remaining 5 percent were allocated to religious leaders within his constituency and across Bauchi State.
The Committee Chairman said that on the Christian side, 50 percent of the stuffs was given to Bogoro LGA, 30 to Tafawa Balewa while 20 percent given to Dass LGA.
He further explained that the sugar was meant for Muslims only, who are presently observing the Holy month of Ramadan fast.
Tukur who said that the former Speaker and a member representing the three LGAs of Dass, Bogoro and Tafawa Balewa Federal Constituency is passionate about the well-being of his people, adding that this gesture has been a routine for long time.
He charged the representatives of the three LGAs who received the items on behalf of the beneficiaries to ensure equitable distribution.
Responding on behalf of the three local governments, Dr Yakubu Yahaya, Ga’Allah Daniel and Ya’u Yusuf of Bogoro, Tafawa Balewa and Dass respectively, thanked the Speaker for the items, adding that the beneficiaries will not forget the good gesture in their lives and God should reward here on Earth and beyond.
