“Reputation Is The Cornerstone Of Power. Through Reputation Alone You Can Intimidate And Win; Once It Slips, However, You Are Vulnerable, And Will Be Attacked On All Sides.” – R. Greene
There was a massive earthquake in Katsina state 3 days ago. The epicentre was a village called Wurma in Kurfi local government. The aftershock rippled as far as the Kaduna/Abuja expressway. Scores of people went missing. Certain ABU Zaria students were rescued however, but money was used, as awkward as that sounds, to save them from the quake and were reunited with their families after more than 3 hours of excruciating negotiations with the cause of the disaster. Looking really traumatized, all the young women could do was sob.
Wurma, the village in Katsina state wasn’t as lucky because no one was there to help the poor villagers as the quake unleashed its fury upon them. This earthquake is absolutely rare because it had specific targets! Knocking down the entrances to houses, the quake targeted human beings and their properties, killing more than 50 people while close to a hundred went missing, mostly women and children. Farm produce and property were also swallowed by this earthquake.
I wonder sometimes where our emergency management agencies hide during such travails. This madness is getting way out of hand. In saner societies, dozens of resignation letters must have been tendered by now. Sadly, nothing of that sort is happening neither have we heard of an operation that is launched to rescue the innocent poor people. Perhaps because it’s not a political operation like the “dancing python” or whatever it was called. As the saying goes, “if you can’t stand the heat, get outta’ the kitchen.”
