Four pharmaceutical companies have donated drugs worth thousands of naira to a free medical mission, taking place at Azumini-Ndoki in the Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia.

The companies are Elbe Pharma Nigeria Ltd., Geneith Pharma Ltd., Lyn-Edge Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and Emzor Pharmaceuticals Industries Ltd.

The companies are all based in Lagos.

The drugs were donated to a group, We Care Support Outreach, which commenced a two-day free medical mission for residents of Azumini community.

Speaking at the opening of the event at Azumini-Ndoki on Friday, the President of the group, Mrs Ngozi Nwoha, said the gesture was to give back to society after a meritorious public service.

“I strongly believe that this intervention will usher better health for the people of Azumini community and position our people to pursue their daily activities in good health.

“I desire good health for our people because health is wealth,’’ she said, adding that she was giving back to a community that nurtured her.

Nwoha, who retired recently from U.S. oil firm, Chevron, pointed out that service to community should not be left alone for government.

She recalled that she had extended a similar gesture to residents of Uhueze, Nenwe in Enugu State, three years ago.

Also speaking, the traditional ruler of Azumini-Ndoki, Eze Edward Eule, described the medical intervention as a trail blazer for his community.

Eule, who was represented by High Chief Andrew Nweke, pleaded with other Azumini citizens having the means to intervene in other areas, including education to uplift the community.

He expressed his excitement that some public-spirited citizens of the community were giving back to the town, to make life worth living for the people.

Twenty five medical practitioners, including tropical diseases experts, ophthalmologists, nurses and other specialists are taking part in the medical mission.
