The All Progressives Congress(APC) Imo State has failed in its bid to regain control of the state, especially the Imo State House of Assembly.
It was gathered that after taking part in the Presidential, Governorship and House of Assembly elections, the Imo APC failed to find its bearing but had initial uplift during the Presidential elections when APC Presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari won in Ideato North and Ideato South local government areas which are Governor Rochas Okorocha’s strongholds and in Oru East local government area which is Chief Hope Uzodinma’s stronghold.
Uzodinma went ahead to secure an additional local government area, Oru West for himself in the Governorship election whereas Okorocha gave out his strongholds to the Action Alliance(AA) candidate, Uche Nwosu against the wish of his party, APC, thereby ensuring the party’s failure at the state level.
But what could be regarded as a colossal failure for the party occurred in the Imo House of Assembly elections where the party could not secure even one seat out of the 27 available seats.
According to the result released by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) after last Saturday’s Supplementary elections, the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) formed the majority with 13 seats; AA followed with eight seats, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA)completed it with six seats.
However, in the House of Representatives elections, APC got a reprieve by securing two seats ie in Nwangele, Nkwere, Njaba and Isu Federal constituency through Hon Ugonna Ozurigbo and Okigwe South Federal constituency, through incumbent Hon Chike Okafor.
Both Lawmakers are loyal to Okorocha who registered and funds AA.
AA secured two – Ideato Federal constituency and Ohaji Egbema, Oru West Federal constituency, leaving PDP with the remaining six federal constituencies.
