From Msughshima Andrew, Makurdi

Former Vice President and presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar has promised to restructure the country if elected president in 2019.

Atiku who is contesting under the platform Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stated this Saturday while fielding questions from journalists after he addressed the Benue State Working Committee and delegates of PDP in Makurdi.

The former Vice President stated that the future of this country lays in the ability of leaders to look at the issue of restructuring with a view to confronting it headlong saying that “to me restructuring the country is a total conviction and not a political gimmick”

“APC in their constitution section 7(2) provides for restructuring, fiscal federalism and the rest but the APC have refused to talk about it because President Buhari doesn’t believe in it, but it is there in their constitution”, he said promising to take Nigeria to a higher level.

Atiku who lamented insecurity, poverty, and hunger among the Nigerian populace said he has gone round the country and the mood of the people is that of total dissatisfaction with the current government.

“Our economy is at its lowest level, our unity is precarious, our security is deplorable so every aspect of human endeavor, our unemployment is the highest ever. Everybody in the country, whether a farmer, businessman or student, is totally dissatisfied with the current government.

“So that is why those of us who have gone round and have felt the pulse of the people are calling for a change as far as 2019 is concerned”.

Asked if he will support a consensus candidate if the party decides that, Atiku said “We are all agreeable to consensus process if it can emerge, we have no objection to that because in a democracy, the more the merrier provided the process is free, fair, credible and without interference”.

He promised that delegates from the state would ensure that only credible aspirant that can represent the party in the 2019 presidential election is voted.
