The People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) Benue State has condemned the continuous killing of innocent citizens in the state by herdsmen describing it as a sign of irredeemable failure of the President Buhari’s led administration.

According to the party, the renewed killings in Benue is is not just a reminder of the All Progressive Congress’ (APC) failure but also a sign that they are incapable of protecting lives and property is Nigerians.

In a press statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Bemgba Iortyom, and made available to 247ureports, in Makurdi, the PartyChairman, Hon. John Ngbede noted that some Benue communities have been under attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen resulting in scores of deaths.

He noted that in the latest attacks in rural communities of Guma, Kwande and Gwer-West Local Government areas, the victims, mostly women, children and the aged were butchered to death in the most barbaric fashion, as usual.

He wondered why the killings should be going on while security measures are acclaimed to have been put in place by the Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari to end the killings.

“As the body count of helpless peasant farmers hacked to death by herdsmen continue to rise while those living flee from their land to live in destitution and hardship in IDP camps, hope is fast fading that there will be a solution to this problem any time soon.

The military Exercise code named “Ayem-A-Kpatema” which was launched to restore peace and security to six states in the North-Central troubled by herdsmen violence, recently had its mandate extended after the expiration of its initial one, yet the attacks and killings have continued.

There could be no other more compelling proof than this continuing ugly, lamentable and sad situation that the All Progressives Congress (APC) controlled national government of Nigeria led by President Buhari has failed the people of Benue State.

The statement recalled that the primary function of government, one which gives it basic validity, is the protection of lives and properties of citizens.

The Party also said that where this is no such protection as in the case of Benue State, such a government cannot have any acceptable claim to continue in power over the people.

The part expressed sympathy with the victims of those heinous crimes by the herdsmen saying ” we urge the people to prepare for self defense by arming themselves with the power of the free ballot, and register to vote in the 2019 general elections.

With the power of the free ballot we must vote out a government that has failed to protect us from the bullets, knives and swords of the herdsmen.

“We will install those we trust could discharge to us the primary responsibilities of good governance which include peace and security of lives and properties
