FRSC Partners Safety NGO To Reduce Road Crashes

The Federal Road Safety Corp, FRSC, Benue State Command has indicated interest to partner with a Non Governmental Organization, (NGO) Road Caution Awareness Initiative, ROCAI, to reduce road fatalities and crashes in the state.
The Benue Sector Commander, Mr David Mendie made the disclosure while receiving a team from the NGO led by the founder, Mr Noah Tsumbu, in his office, on Friday, in Makurdi.
According to him, the partnership will further enhance proactive measures already employed by the Corp to make Nigerian road safer.
Mendie who disclosed that the FRSC’s target for the year 2018 is to reduce Road Fatalities by 30 percent and Road Traffic Crashes by 50 percent said the organization would need partmerahip with such NGOs to achieve its aims.
Mendie who also stated that road safety is everybody’s business, also urged all stakeholders to get involved .
He said “Our work is proactive because we talk about prevention; patrol, traffic control and sensitization helps prevent road crashes.
“But when they occur, we talk about rescue, post crash care among others. I am proud that over the years, Road Safety has carried out the work it was established for.
“Senaitization is key to our bid to ensure safer highways in the country. Road Safety is everybody’s business. As an organisation, we can’t do it alone so, we welcome strong partnership with stakeholders to achieve our goals”, he said.
Founder of the ROCAI, Mr Tsumbu said the NGO wished to assist efforts of the Corp to enhance public education and enlightenment campaign on road safety.
“We are partnering with the FRSC to make the public aware of, and to encourage Nigerians to embrace the culture of safer road use act.
“This is to help reduce the numerous road crashes ,increase in loss of lives on our major roads within the metropolis.
” We will create better understanding between road users and authorities concerned.
“we will use theatric means such as dramas,dance and music to ensure a high level of safety on our roads.
“We need the support and involvement of every individual, as well as the public and private sectors in other to drive home all our safety messages,’’ he said.
ROCAI is an NGO which seeks to promote safer road use culture in Nigeria starting from Benue. Its objectives include helping to reduce avoidable accidents, enhancing economic growth by encouraging reliable transport services, raising volunteers for road safety campaigns as well as creating better understanding between road users and authorites concerned among others.
