Ekwueme’s Death: Shops, Markets To Shut On 30th November

…stay at home ordered across the world

From Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, Awka

National Leadership of the Oko Peoples Union, Nigeria yesterday declared that the Eke Market will be shut on the 30th of November , 2017 as a mark of respect for their departed hero and the former Vice president,  Dr Alex Ekwueme, who died Sunday evening in London.

According to an eyewitness, Mr Ernest Nwosu, the closure of the Eke market will also affect shops and businesses of Oko people across the globe. He said every Oko person resident anywhere in the world has been mandated to observe a sit at home on the 30th and as well close their businesses.

Nwosu in an interview with The Authority exclusively said the community led by the National President Chief Cyprian Ik Nwanmuo in company of Leader of Umuada led by Mrs Maureen Uzoegbunam and legal Adviser, Barr Uchenna Okonkwo Okom decided on that after it met with the family of Late Ekwueme. The meeting was attended by youths , Ndiichie , women and Youths.

Though the family was deserted as only security men were on guard earlier in the day but later , the community visited the Igwe of Oko, Prof Laz Ekwueme who confirmed the demise to them and they joined in the mourning even as some persons were seen signing condolence register.

At the  family were the wife of the late  monarch,  Over Justice A Ekwueme,  lady Edith Ekwueme,  her daughter,  Dr Mrs Ada Ekwueme – Onuora and the son of the first monarch of the community,  Engr. Mike Ekwueme

They refused to speak to the press but the Monarch addressed his people and accepted their visit and condolences.

Meanwhile,  Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign state of Biafra MASSOB,  has described the death of Ekwueme as a colossal loss to Nigeria and indeed Ndigbo

In a statement yesterday in Awka, which was signed by the National director of information of the movement under the leadership of Uchenna Madu,  comrade Edison Samuel,  said the people of south east would miss him.

He said no honour was given to Ekwueme by the People’s Democratic Party PDP,  despite being the founder of the party through G8 for 16 Year rule of the party

The reason for such anomaly,  according to MASSOB,  was because Ekwueme was an Igbo man.

The statement further said that the movement would always remember the political icon in the land
