Abia To Launch Anti-Mosquito Breeding Campaign

Abia State government has announced plans to launch anti mosquito breeding campaign in the State to create awareness on the need to maintain clean environment which will reduce spread of mosquito.

Rector, Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology, (ABSCOTECH) Aba, Prof. Chidi Ezeama, disclosed that the campaign would be launched by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, on August 17, in Umuahia.

 

The Rector stated that Governor Ikpeazu who doubles as the chief campaigner of the programme is committed to developing an anti mosquito breeding format, AMBEF, for the state.

 

He explained that ABSOTECH has been chosen as the centre of the campaign as the programme entails creating awareness on the need to reduce the spread of mosquitoes, hygienic practices and public health education among.

 

ā€œAbia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology has been chosen as the centre of the Anti Mosquito Breeding campaign in Abia State. The campaign will be launched on August 17 in Umuahia by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, who is the chief campaigner. The emphasis is on identifying mosquito breeding areas, discouraging breeding of mosquito, keeping our environment clean and creation of awareness about health issues and enlightenment of the citizenry on the need to maintain clean environment.

 

“We are focusing on preventive measures rather curative. We will also focus on how we can prevent breeding of mosquitoes than the usual curative measures of treating diseases caused by mosquito bite. Prevention is better than cure. The campaign is also focusing on Infrastructural development, especially in the health sector.ā€

 

He urged the public to take advantage of the affordable cost of medical treatment being offered by the institutionā€™s health centre and abstain from self medication and patronizing quacks.
