Palpable fear of planned impeachment on the Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA), Mr. Monday Igbuya, has crippled activities of the House as the lawmakers are unable to sit for the past two months.

Impeccable sources revealed to 247ureports.com that there is plan by some legislators to impeach the speaker, Igbuya over allegations of high handedness and lack of leadership qualities in running the House.

“Ever since he became the Speaker of the House, the House has been operating like one without a leader. He has brought so much embarrassment to the House through his reckless utterances”, the source said.

Igbuya, had on many occasions, openly canvassed for second term for the state governor, Ifeanyi Okowa in 2019, a situation many Deltans frown at even as some Deltans have expressed worries over the open campaign for Okowa by by Igbuya, considering the fact that Igbuya is of the legislative arm of government and such an act is capable of making the House subservient to the Executive.

There have been two impeachment attempts in the past and the last attempt saw Honourable Johnson Erijo representing Isoko South II; Hon. Reuben Izeze, Ughelli North II and Hon. Pat Ajudua, Oshimili North suspended indefinitely.

The Speaker dismissed the impeachment threat, claiming the suspended members were punished for parliamentary misconduct.

Recent events have shown all is not well in the House and the frequent shifting of sitting is a pointer.

When contacted, Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Speaker, Mr. Henry Ebireri, dismissed the impeachment allegations, claiming the House would soon commence sitting.

In his words, ‘As I speak now, the calendar for sitting is almost completed. The impeachment story is false. It is the figment of the imagination of those peddling the rumour’.
