Of recent, a muddled up quote attributed to the Hon.Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola SAN has been going round on social media. For the record, and to correct any misgivings, it has become important to state the Hon.Minister’s words correctly.
During a recent interview with the presenter of “Dateline Abuja,” BRF was asked about the “promise” of adding 2,000 MW to the grid by a particular period.
In response, the Hon.Minister reiterated the concrete plans and actions of the FG to achieve incremental power in the short term. He noted that he doesn’t make promises on what he does not control and went on to speak about the negative impact of vandalism on the Power Sector thus: ” There is no nation in the world that wants electricity, that vandalises the assets that produce electricity. It just doesn’t make sense.
” So I can control what my Team does, I can promise you what my Team effort will produce but I can’t control behaviour that is counterproductive.
” Those pipelines are our national assets, they were built with our commonwealth. The people whose territories it passes are custodians of it for the entire nation.
” So let us assume that the people who are also custodians of Jebba, Kainji and Shiroro Dams which were built with Nigeria’s money go to break them down because they too are angry, then who gets power ?”
