The absence of the Minister of the Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Usani Uguru towards the efforts to curtail the raging activities of the new militant groups within the Niger Delta region of the Nigeria has sparked anger within groups in the community. According to information made available to our correspondent in south south Nigeria, the Niger Delta Affairs minister appears absent in the concerted effort by the Buhai administration to checkmate the continued disruption to the distribution of crude oil by multinational companies station in the Niger Delta region.
One of the groups, Rural Community Development Initiative [RCDI] had drafted a petition against the Minister’s silent and inability to join issues to address the escalating menace covered by the ministry under his purview. The petition which was made available to our correspondent by the spokesperson, Sunday Abili and signed by the President, Stanley Ogbo, frowned at the docile posture of the Minister and his timid outlook on the problems bedeviling the oil rich region.
“The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani has said that efforts were in place to renew the Covenant between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the people of Niger Delta region in order to create a solid and enduring Partnership for the socio-economic and industrial development of the region. But nothing so far has been seen from the Minister thus far”, said the petition as it went on to call for the resignation of the Minister should he fail to sit up and face up to the tasks ahead.
The spokesperson elaborated that “In Abuja, it is the Minister of Federal Capital Territory [FCT] that sees to the development and management of the FCT. The Minister of the Niger Region should also take a lead and see to the return of peaceful production and distribution of crude oil in the region.”
