The former governor of Anambra state Mr Peter Obi has been dismissed as an impostor, seeking to reap in a place he did not reap.
The Chief Ejike Oguebego led faction of the peoples Democratic Party, on Wednesday said Chief Annie Okonkwo remained the candidate of the party in the Anambra Cenral senatorial rerun.
The Independent National Electoral Commission on Tuesday postponed the senatorial rerun indefinitely, following a court order obtained by the PDP.
Following the court order, INEC had the to on Wednesday shift indefinitely the rerun previously slated for Saturday, this week.
Oguebego in a press conference described a former governor of the state, Mr Peter Obi whose supporters claimed to be the consensus candidate of the party in the rerun as an impostor.
“ Obi is an impostor. The law is clear, you can’t jump into any election without being involved in all stages of the election. So he can’t come in now. Annie Okonkwo remains the legitimate candidate of PDP in the rerun.
He declared that “those jostling for the ticket of the party in the central senatorial zone should forget it as senator Annie Okonkwo remains the party’s candidate for the election.
He asked the former governor Peter Obi to forget about the ticket, adding “there is no vacancy”.
Oguebego said PDP was relying on the Supreme Court judgment of January 29 in the endorsement of Okonkwo.
He said PDP’s ticket for Anambra Central was not for ” the highest bidder” , stressing that Sen. Annie Okonkwo had paid his dues in the party.
“We are not mincing words on this issue, it is obvious that senator Okonkwo is the PDP candidate for the Anambra central senatorial district, based on the Supreme Court judgment recently”
“Any other person dreaming to succeed Senator Uche Ekwunife should go and rest, there is no vacancy any more in PDP, the party already has its candidate in Okonkwo” Oguebego said.
Political analyst fear that another round of in fighting nay yet again cost the party the Anambra central senatorial seat.
