A chieftain of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia State, Chigozie Ubani has escape an assassination attempt , and got his house set ablaze at Obete Umuoha Village, Obingwa Local Government Area of the state.

Sources told 247ureports that the arsonists struck at about 6am, last Sunday, where they threw petrol laden plastic container through the backdoor which razed two rooms and a part of the roof of the building.

The fire consumed the children’s bedroom, visitors’ and rest rooms, two television sets, three mattresses, clothes and furniture.

Ubani described the incident as a clear assassination attempt on his life, and wondered why anybody will seek to kill him and burn his house.

According to him, “There is no doubt that this incident is political. It boils down to my support for APGA in the last election. I have packed my things to travel back to my base in Lagos. At about 6am, I heard a loud bang on the window of my bedroom, and fire started immediately.

“I would have been burnt to death, but for God’s grace. I raised alarm and the fire was quenched, without knowing that another wing of the building was also set on fire which burnt my children’s bedroom, visitors’ and rest rooms . Thank God, my children were not here on holiday. This is no doubt this was an assassination attempt. You can see some of the petrol bomb and other inflammable materials they threw which was quenched. I’m still shocked; I don’t owe anybody, im yet to understand why anybody will plan to kill me in my father’s house.”

The APGA chieftain hinted that the arsonists left a note at a bush behind the building, but refused to divulge the contents, stressing that he wouldn’t want to jeopardize police investigations.
