The leader of the new Biafra Independent Movement (BIM) that
metamorphosed from the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign
State of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Ralhp Uwazuruike on Monday announced
the indefinite postponement of the proposed prayer, fasting and
national election to determine the leaders of the impending country.
Uwazuruike told journalists in Owerri that the sudden shift in the
date of the prayer session and election, which more than 100 clergymen
from the south-east and south-south were expected, was to enable BIM
(MASSOB) make adequate consultation.
“We have to make adequate consultations and preparation well before
the next date for the event will be made public’’, he said.
Our reporter gathered that MASSOB had earlier announced that it would
hold a three-day prayer and fasting session beginning from Jan.12,
ahead of the February 22, 2016 elections billed for Ikemba Ojukwu
Memorial Library in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
It was gathered that a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Samuel Aniebonam. was
named the chairman of the electoral body
But in a sudden turn of event, Uwazuruike said the exercise have been
put on hold as leaders of MASSOB would check the pros and cons
before a new date for both the prayers and elections into various
office would be made public..
It was gathered that the leader of the Niger Delta Volunteer Force,
Asari Dokubo, and Dr. Fredrick Fasheun, the founder of the Oodua
Peoples’ Congress, were expected to be in Owerri, for the event.
Uwazuruike, who recently rebranded MASSOB to Biafra Independence
Movement (BIM), regretted the inconvenience the sudden change in date
would cause members of the group and guests.
According to Uwazuruike, the theme of the prayer titled: “Give us
Biafra”, still remains, while Apostle Gregory Ashieg¬bu will still be
the anchor for the prayer
Uwazuruike told reporters that the election into BIM positions would
be different from elections recently conducted in Nigeria, saying “it
will be an open ballot system unlike Nigeria’s closed ballot system.’’
