Supporters of Adamu Candido and that of Mrs. Pam Amanda on Monday turned the national Secretariat of All Progressives Congress (APC) to a battle field over the result of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Chairmanship primaries in the Federal Capital Territory conducted in December 16.
The protest at the national secretariat was not different from various former ones witnessed recently as the party supporters were using all kinds of arms and charms against each other, even as the thugs assaulted former City Centre Councillor, Otunba Nathan Ene.
The clash was as a result of the Council’s chairmanship primaries that was conducted in December 16, which produced Adamu Candido as the candidate of APC.
he supporters of Mrs. Amanda had protested against the primaries as their candidate and two others were disqualified from contesting the primaries.
It was also gathered that two other aspirants that were disqualified from contesting the council chairmanship primaries were: Halidu Adamu and Shekerua Bawa. Both the national secretariat and the state secretariat of the party have not been able to give a reason why they were disqualified from contesting the primaries.
Ten ward chairmen out of the twelve ward chairmen in the Area Council were said to have sent petition to the national secretariat after the primaries calling for the cancellation of the primaries and the result.
According to them, the primaries was organized to favour Candido against other aspirants, therefore did not reflect the wishes of the delegates and party members in the Area Council.
When the APC National Secretariat, Mai Mala Buni was contacted to speaking on the petition, he stated that the national officers and the stated executive of the party are working to resolve the crisis.
He said, “The FCT chapter and the Headquarters are working to resolve the problem amicably”.
