The ongoing pro-Biafra protest ravaging the South East zone yesterday took a different dimension in Aba, as women stormed the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway over the detention of the Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

The women clad in Biafra flags marched round the Ariaria junction to the few kilometers on the expressway singing pro Biafra and anti Nigerian government and decried the continued detention of Kanu whom they described ;our leader.’

The protest caused heavy gridlock on the Enugu –Port Harcourt expressway as motorists moved at snail speed while some commuters were seen trekking to their destinations while the protests lasted.

Some of them who spoke to our correspondent said they have been part of the ongoing protest but decided to hold a women protest to warn those still holding Kanu to release him or be ready to test their wrath.

“This is a warning to the federal government to release our leader, Nnamdi Kanu. He is a freedom fighter and did not commit any offence. It is either they release him or test our wrath. In Igbo land, when women come to protest, you know that things have gotten out of hand. This is why we want the federal government to act now if they still want peace.”

Asked if they are not afraid of the IGP’s order outlawing Biafra protest, the women said they are ready to die in the course of fighting for the release of Kanu and urged the Police to fight Boko Haram insurgency than ‘maiming non violent Biafra agitators.
