Boko Haram Have Destroyed 546,388tonnes Of Crops in Adamawa

The Boko Haram insurgents are said to have destroyed 546,388 metric
tonnes of crops in the Northern parts of Adamawa state in 2014.

According to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural
Development 273,194 farmers were equally affected by the insurgents
attack.

Dr. Walia Hamman the State Director of the Ministry in Yola recently
said these farmers are from just five local government areas of the
state.

And he says, “546,388 metric tones of these crops comprises of maize,
rice, sorghum and others were affected”

The Director said Madagali Local Government Area has the highest
number of affected farmers with a total number of 97,391 followed by
Mubi South with 68,772 farmers.

Other local government areas are Michika 34,592, Mubi North 42,062
and Maiha 30,377 farmers.

All these numbers are farmers that lost their sources of living to
the activities of Boko Haram.

Dr. Hamman however assured that the Federal Government has enough
food reserves in its silos to avert food crisis.

“These same local government areas have been affected through the
smooth implementation of growth enhancement scheme projects”, he
added.

According to the Director, the total number of farmers registered in
2014 under this scheme was 780,845 in the affected zones above.

To this end he says 67,000 farmers are to benefit in the 2015 dry
season farming in the state.
