At least 120 suspected Boko Haram terrorists were killed on Sunday as the terrorists attempted to gain entrance into Maiduguri, the Borno state Capital. A local vigilante and Military official said.

“Terrorists who attacked Maiduguri in the early hours of today have been successfully repelled. An extensive cordon & search is ongoing as part of the mopping up operation to determine details of the heavy casualties suffered by the terrorists.
“Scores of the terrorists have died in the course of the attack, while many of them were also captured with wounds . A Cobra Armoured Vehicle and the heavy Artillery gun, as well as some Machine Guns & other weapons were captured from the fleeing terrorists. 3 Gulf cars loaded with explosives were also destroyed. Similarly, troops in Konduga successfully repelled terrorists attack twice today, [Sunday]. Some of the troops however lost their lives in the series of operations to repel the terrorists today. Others who were wounded have been evacuated for appropriate medical treatment ” Olukolade who could not disclose exact number of casualty said.
A member of the local vigilante group – Bana Maina said ” Over 120 of the suspected Boko Haram members were killed when the Military launched air and land operations, many others fled into the bush and they are still being pursued .
” I also saw nine dead bodies of Nigeria Soldiers who were killed by the Boko Haram members.” Maina said.
The Military said in a statement that “the 24 hour curfew imposed in the course of the operation is expected to be lifted as soon as mopping operation is concluded. Citizens will be allowed to go about their lawful activities from 6 am tomorrow,Monday.” .
