Iranian Health Minister Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi said on October 23 that the deadly Ebola virus is likely to enter Iran.
Hashemi said no case of Ebola has been observed in Iran so far.
He said a special laboratory has been equipped for emergency screening.
The health minister also said Iran started taking necessary measures to fight the disease six months ago.
He said isolation rooms for potential patients are not available in Iran’s hospitals but some special intensive care units had been set up.
Deputy Health Minister Mahmud Nabavi said last week that arrangements have been made at “two big airports” in Iran to send passengers coming from African countries to health centers for Ebola examination.
The virus has claimed more than 4,500 lives over the past 10 months, mainly in West Africa.
