Delta State Government has announced the restriction of movement between the hours of 8.00am and 3.00pm on Saturday, October 25, in view of the Local Government elections slated for that date.

The State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan who disclosed this during a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders meeting on Thursday explained that the restriction was to enable voters carry out their civic duty and ensure a peaceful atmosphere for a free and fair election.

Governor Uduaghan added that top government officials were not excluded from the order but were all expected to abide by the order, advising them to go and cast their votes in their locality and return home.

He said that security agencies have been put on alert to handle all security issues and ensure a hitch-free local government election stressing, “Security agencies have been strategizing to ensure hitch-free election and handle all security issues before and during the election”

“I want to assure you that the Delta State Independent Election Commission [DSIEC] has vowed to make the local government election free and fair”, the governor said.

Dr. Uduaghan who noted that PDP was the only party mobilising and campaigning round the various wards in the state, told faithfuls of the party that the meeting was called to take a holistic look at the party’s campaign efforts so far and deal with any grey areas.

“PDP is the only party that is campaigning and mobilising for the election, other parties are seating down at home and preparing to write petitions when they eventually lose.  I want to assure you that we are aiming for total victory at the election as we had worked hard for it”

“This meeting is to assess our party’s campaigning efforts, where we need additional mobilisation, we will do that as we are aiming for total victory at the election”, Dr Uduaghan said.

The PDP Acting Chairman, Chief Edwin Uzor had commended the leaders and stakeholders for their efforts at campaigning and mobilising their people for the forthcoming local government election and urged them not to relent in their efforts to ensure victory for the party.
