Ahead of the 2015 general elections, Abia state governor, Chief Theodore Orji may have chosen to re-jig his media department in the face of unwarranted attacks by detractors of his government.
The governor who had been engaged in a relentless media war with his predecessor, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu through the latter’s Sun newspapers, last week reappointed Mr. Ugochukwu Emezue as Special Adviser on Electronic Media, perhaps to add bite to the team.
Emezue who served as the Immediate past Chief Press Secretary to the governor is reputed for his ferocious attacks on opponents of the governor, particularly during his first stint as Special Adviser, Electronic Media.
Sources within the Abia Government House have continued to hail Emezue’s reappointment, describing it as timely. They stated that he will bring his wealth of experience to bear on the job to stem the tide of bad publicity being meted out on the governor.
247ureports gathered that Emezue has since he was relieved of his former position, been in the print and electronic media, projecting the programmes and policies of the Gov. Orji administration.
In a chat with our correspondent in Umuahia on Thursday, Emezue who was visibly elated at his reappointment, expressed gratitude to the governor for finding him fit to serve the state again.
He vowed to leverage on his contacts in the media industry to add value to his office as well as inform the citizenry about the activities of the state governor whom he described as a man burning with the desire to take Abia to the next level.
While condemning attacks on the governor by his predecessor, Emezue described Kalu as a drowning man who is clutching on anything to stay afloat.
He attributed Kalu’s recent outburst against his successor to envy ,stressing that the governor’s achievement has intimidated his predecessor who left no legacy of which he could be remembered for during his eight year stint as governor from 1999- 2007.
“Kalu has no shame, if he has any; he would not be making all these noise because he underdeveloped Abia and caused division among its people. Gov. Orji is still correcting the misgovernance of the Kalu years. We are used to Kalu’s antics. His only interest is to distract Gov. Orji, but the good thing is that the governor has refused to be distracted.”
