The state coordinator of Taal Campaign Organization, Hajiya Hajara Danyaro has strongly condemned the impeachment notice meted on Nasarawa state Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura by the Nasarawa lawmakers.
Other groups including the Federation of Muslim Women Association (FOMWAN), Women for Change Initiative, Christian Association of Nigeria amongst others prayed for God’s intervention in the current imbroglio between the chief executive and the lawmakers. Amongst them were Pro Al-Makura women group who also expressed dissatisfaction over the present development that is about plunging the state into mayhem.
Meanwhile, the protest organizer, Hajiya Hajara Danyaro accused the presidency of masterminding the impeachment process. The ex-Special Adviser to Governor Al-Makura on political affairs who was sacked by the state House of Assembly also condemned the impeachment alert as uncalled for advising the lawmakers to put the interest of the state above their personal interest. He stated that president Goodluck Jonathan had legalized corruption in public office – adding that the President swindled the country N18bn but he still remains the most celebrated figure in the country – while orchestrating the impeachment of Governor Al-Makura.
In Mararaba, Karu Local Government, information available to 247ureports.comindicate that groups of Al-Makura supporters barricaded major highways causing hardship to commuters plying to the gateway of the nation’s capital. In Keffi Local Government it was gathered that business activities were paralyzed as shop were shot down as armed soldiers were stationed at designated locations to prevent outbreak of violence.
In Nasarawa Local Government, at the home of the speaker of Nasarawa state assembly, protesters were seen carrying placards with burn fires while chanting songs that the embattled Governor should continue in office. In Toto Local Government, men and women including some senior citizens joined the protesters to occupy the Toto headquarter.
In Kokona Local Government, the headquarter of Garaku, APC supporters turn out en masse protesting the action of the lawmakers. In Akwanga Local Government few people were seen protesting. In Nasarawa Eggon, protesters were seen carrying placards with inscriptions, “Baba Taal should continue, We need more township roads”, “Please NSHA allow him to complete our township road”
In Wamba Local Government, large number of people turned out to express their grievances carrying placards. In Obi Local Government the story was same. In Awe LGA, the protesters witnessed large turn out who marched from Local Government secretariat to the emirs palace.
In Doma Local Government the Governors supporter blocked the major road leading to Wednesday market – to the Local Government Secretariat. They were received by the Local Government chairman, Hon. Henry Omaku who also advised the Assembly members to do everything within the confines of the nation’s constitution.
In Keana LGA, the outing saw a large turnout. Most of the protesters carried placards with inscription “Allow our Governor to commence the construction of the two kilometre township in Keana”.
Serving commissioners, advisers also staged a peaceful protest over the impeachment.
Other groups of youth were seen burning tyres marching with placards with inscriptions “The impeachment is not for the interest of people of Nasarawa state“.
