The ongoing impeachment saga currently unfolding in Adamawa State appears on the verge upturning the status quo in the north eastern state of Adamawa. According to information recently made available to 247ureports.com through competent sources within the Adamawa governing circles, the embattled Adamawa State governor, Malam Nyako has become cashless as a result of the actions of the federal government to freeze the state accounts of the state government of Adamawa and of the governor.
Last week, according to a source within the All Progressive Congress [APC] in Adamawa State, the governor of Adamawa State approached the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC] through emissaries seeking to plead with the anti-graft commission to consider releasing some the monies frozen by the federal government. According to the source, the governor “can not boast of having N5million” in his person. Governor Nyako has since been approaching other members of APC to help raise badly needed funds. One of the APC stakeholders who have come to his aide is the governor of Kano State, Malam Rabiu Kwankwaso, who visited Adamawa recently to plead with the state assembly members to soft pedal on the impeachment move, was seen to have given Governor Nyako some badly needed financial assistance. The governor of Sokoto along with other APC members have begun contributing money to the Adamawa governor.
Adding muster to the already fermenting kettle of manure is the ongoing hide and seek tango between the lawmakers at the Adamawa State assembly and the embattled governor. A credible but unverified source told 247ureports.com that the governor may have slipped into Cameroon via the large border shared with Cameroon. The source pointed out that the embattled Governor went underground after having been stopped at the airport – as he attempted to escape the reach of the Adamawa lawmakers in order to avert the process of impeachment being served on him. The source indicated that Governor likely sneaked out of the country between June 28 and July 2.
But his whereabouts remains uncertain.
The acting chief judge of the state, according to news sources, has acted to put the impeachment process in motion by setting up the seven member panel to examine the impeachment grounds as itemized by the Adamawa lawmakers. It is expected for the panel to expedite the examination process – and to give the go head that the grounds of impeachment are sound and warrant the impeachment of the governor and his deputy.
