The Former Minister of Communication and Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Dora Akunyili has been confirm dead, age 59.
It was gathered that Akunyili has been receiving treatment over a serious illness in India hospital for years.
On behalf of her family, the Former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Peter Obi confirmed that Dora dead in a Specialist Cancer Hospital in Indian at 10 am in the morning after a two-year battle with cancer.
Obi said that in spite of her illness, she was unwavering in her belief for a better Nigeria and that was why she defied her condition and was part of Anambra State Handover Committee and the National Conference.
He confessed that the last time he visited her in India, even when she needed all the prayers herself, she was full of concern for Chibok girls, security and other challenges facing the country.
Obi said that she told him that she remained prayerful for the release of those girls and for God to help President Goodluck Jonathan to overcome all the challenges facing the Nation and therefore She urged all Nigerians to remain prayerful and committed to building a better society for our children.
He thank all those who remain fervent in prayers for her recovery and urge them to remain prayerful for the peaceful repose of her soul.
Meanwhile, Senator Ben Ndiobi, the special Assistant to the President on Inter-Party Affirms described Dora’s death as a lost to all Nigerians.
Ndiobi said that Dora’s death is certainty a painful one as people has lost a joy adding that she was an exemplary character.
