Ahead of the 2015 general elections, the member representing Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo federal constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Eziuche Ubani has appealed to his constituents to re-elect for the third term.

Speaking at an empowerment programme for beneficiaries selected from the 31 electoral wards of the constituency, Ubani who chairs the House Committee on Climate Change said he needs to return to the House to complete his plans for the constituency.

“I came to thank you today for having confidence in me. I also thank the leadership of the party. I was one of the first people who embarked on the empowerment programme when I was first elected to serve my people in the federal house in 2007.That was when motor cycles were in vogue, I gave out numerous motorcycles to many youths in my constituency and other various items such as fridges, bicycles and televisions. I have done visible and verifiable projects in this constituency which includes building a power station in Ogbor Hill, donation of transformers, renovation of schools in many communities amongst others.

“We decided to embark on the programme in order to equip our people. I believe it is better to give my constituents tangible items which will enable them fend for themselves rather than giving them money which might be misused. The richest man in Africa today, Aliko Dangote started his business empire from selling matches.”

Ubani lamented that his efforts to deliver dividends of democracy to his constituents was not been felt because of the high number of wards in his constituency.

“I have the highest number of wards in Abia (31 wards), others have about 13 and 20 wards. Nnenna Ukeje who represents Bende Federal constituency has only 13 wards to contend with.  That notwithstanding, I will not relent in my efforts to make life easier for you. I want to stress that my empowerment programme is continuous and will be as long as I represent you. Those who did not benefit from today’s empowerment should be patient and wait for their turn in subsequent ones. I assure you that I do not make promises which I will not fulfill. I will do more if you re-elect me to the House.”

He called on his constituents to support Gov. Theodore Orji’s promise to hand over power to the Ukwa/Ngwa zone in 2015.

“The greatest empowerment will come when we help Gov. Orji to realize his pledge to hand over power to an Ukwa/Ngwa man. I urge you to pray for the governor because he needs your prayers and cooperation in order to keep to the promise.’

While commending the lawmaker for the empowerment programme, the state Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Chief Allen Nwachukwu, pointed out that past administrations in the state distributed wheelbarrows in the name of empowering people.

Nwachukwu who was chairman of the occasion told the gathering that Ubani has emulated Gov. Orji by giving back to the people and enjoined other representatives who have not done so to appreciate their constituents.

In a chat with our correspondent, a party faithful from Ugwunagbor council, Adindu Micah appealed to Ubani to shelve his plan to return to the House after serving two term in 2015.

He called on the lawmaker to respect the gentleman arrangement guiding the rotation of the House of Representatives seat among the three component councils of Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbor, stressing that past occupants of the seat; Prof Clifford Ohiagu, (1999 -2003) and Senator Nkechi Nwaogu (2003 -2007) only served a term.

“Hon. Eziuche Ubani is the only person to serve a second term at the seat. He should be contented and make way in the interest of the gentle arrangement for Ugwunagbor people to occupy the seat in 2015.”

Highpoint of the occasion was the handing over of 57 tricycles, 50 grinding machines,40 fish ponds, 40 sewing machines, 35 GSM repair kits, 40 sets of soap making sets, among other items.
