Chairman of the Ebonyi State chapter of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr. Jerry Obasi says the recent defection of Ambassador Frank Ogbuewu to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is in the best interest of APGA as the former minister was a bad influence on the party in the state.

In a chat with 247ureports.com, Obasi who alleged that APGA made a mistake in fielding the former minister of Culture and Tourism as it governorship candidate in the last election as he instigated disaffection among members of APGA in the state, stressing that the party has been more united since his exit to the PDP.

“Ogbuewu’s defection to PDP is good for us in APGA in Ebonyi state. He added no value to the party that gave him its platform to contest the last governorship election but instigated series of crisis among members. We made a mistake in fielding him in the election. What can he say he did for APGA? He didn’t even know where the party secretariat is located. Ogbuewu was never on the same page with the state party leadership who he was always opposing and tried severally to remove from office.

“Ogbuewu was the rally point for those who worked against the interest of APGA. So, we are celebrating his defection to the PDP, it is in the best in interest of APGA in Ebonyi state. The party can now gather its act together because the major character destabilizing it has left,” Obasi said.

While dismissing reports that Ogbuewu’s defection would affect APGA chances in the 2015 general elections, Obasi said the party won’t miss the former minister.

“What did he do when he was in the party other than serving as a bad influence on members? When he was the party’s governorship elections in the 2011 election, Ogbuewu told some party members that he knew that he won’t win the election and discouraged a lot of APGA supporters. What manner of governorship candidate would make such statement before the election? He never supported APGA candidates in the elections, APGA candidates failed even in his Ikwo LGA. So, we are happy that we won’t face the same situation in 2015 since he has left.”

The youthful APGA chairman who added that the party is set to win the 2015 general elections said he regrets the loss of Senator Emmanuel Onwe to the PDP, describing him one of the father figures of APGA in the state.

“Senator Emmanuel Onwe will be certainly missed. He is a great leader who impacted positively on the party in the state. There is a world of difference between him and Ogbuewu. They were just opposite of each other during their days in APGA. Onwe was a team player while Ogbuewu preferred to be an agent of destabilization in APGA. I assure you that APGA is still strong in Ebonyi state and win seats in the 2015 elections.”
