At this year’s, annual Yaum Shuhada (Martyrs’ Day) commemoration,

Sheikh Ibrahim Yaqub Zakzaky says, Haruna Abbas and Ibrahim Hussain

detained by Nigerian security operatives (SSS) over a year ago must be

released!

He explained that, they committed no offence and were unjustifiably

detained without trial for over a year now, adding that no law or

constitutional provision allows for such a lengthy detention without

trial, and without visitation by families and friends, especially in a

democratic government Nigeria is claiming to operate.

Sheikh Zakzaky further explained that, last year when he said they

must be released Nigerian security operatives waited to see the

Movement’s reaction, and later dismissed it as an empty threat.

He said, “they thought we were going to put on a fight. No, this is

not an empty threat, it is the truth. Haruna Abbas and Hussain Ibrahim

must be released! Yes, they must be released because their detention

contravened all international laws, and even the constitutional

provision they operate. They are unjustifiably detained without trial,

without allowing anyone to visit them. There is no law that says

detainees or the imprisoned cannot be visited, even military regimes

allows for that. Surprisingly, they boast of operating a democratic

rule in this country”.

He said, they accuse the two of receiving training on terrorism

abroad. “If that is true”, he argued, “Allow them to commit terrorism

before you arrest them. One cannot be arrested and detained this long

in anticipation that he may commit a crime. They have not committed

any crime yet. We therefore challenge them to present them before

court. ased on this, they cannot present them before any court, for

they have no justification of keeping them. They are protecting U.S

and Israeli interest, waiting for orders from them. Therefore, Haruna

Abbas and Ibrahim Hussain must be released!”

On the abduction of Students of GGSS Chibok Sheikh Ibrahim Yaqub

Zakzaky has accused Nigerian security operatives of the abduction of

over 200 school girls in Chibok, Borno State, as part of the covert

operation western countries to balkanize Nigeria and steal its

Sheikh Zakzaky explained that, the abduction was a plan to pave way

for U.S. and Israeli military presence in Nigeria to balkanize the

country and steal its resources. “Let no one be fooled, there is

nothing like Boko Haram! It is a covert operation to balkanize Nigeria

and steals its resources in the name of search of Boko Haram

insurgents. If you can fool others, we cannot be fooled!”.

He said, those protesting for the release of the abducted girls should

direct their protest at President Goodluck Jonathan and his colleague

Shekau, for they are two of the same kind. “Shekau is presently kept

safe in a secret military camp”, he added.

Sheikh Zakzaky further said, the intention is to disperse people from

all places with rich resources in the name of search of insurgents.

“They realized there is gold in Zamfara and Zaria-Birnin Gwari; gold

and platinum in Sokoto and Borno. They did it in Iraq, as they went in

search of Weapons of Mass Destruction, which they never found but

plunged the country in chaos. The same thing was experimented in

Afghanistan before our eyes”, he said.

The Islamic scholar said, the western countries are experimenting the

second era of scramble for Africa with great expectations from

Nigeria, in this of the glaring realities that Africa is in its peak

of glory.

According to him, U.S. and Israel see the Islamic Movement in Nigeria

as the greatest threat to achieving its sinister objective, hence the

constant clampdown attempt and arrest of its members.

Making reference to the two members of the Movement, Haruna Abbas and

Ibrahim Hussain, arrested over a year ago, Sheikh Zakzaky said they

must be released as they committed no offence and were

unjustifiably detained without trial for over a year now.

He argued that, no law or constitutional provision allows for such a

lengthy detention without trial, and without visitation by families

and friends, especially in a democratic government Nigeria is claiming

to operate.
