The General Superintendent,GS,Assemblies of God’s Church, Rev. Prof Paul Emeke, has assured members of the church and the entire members of the public that the leadership crisis rocking the church will be shaken-off as soon as possible.
The GS who was visibly touched by the brazen display of inordinate ambition for power by a segment of the church led Rev. Chidi Okoroafor, declared that the church will overcome its present credibility challenge.
Prof. Emeka spoke Wednesday at Assemblies of God’s Church Headquarters in Enugu while fielding questions from newsmen on the ongoing friction bedeviling the leadership of the church which has raven a pronounced crack on the church.
“I am worried about what is going on now in this church. I am worried because I want this church to be what it is supposed to be and what it used to be, a united church. And looking at the church from inception to now, it begins to look as if the church is loosing credibility.
“Assemblies of God is a church that is known to have strong structures and believes in holiness. For people to come and begin to introduce some craftsmanship and express unbridled inordinate ambition for power, it amounts to destroying the hope and faith many pentecostal churches have on Assemblies of God’s church.
“I want holiness restored to the church. I assure our members and the general public that things will normalize. Once things normalize, we will not pretend. We will tell the whole world that we got it wrong somewhere. So, we are sorry and promise never to toe this ugly path.
“We will take the church to the path of revival. This revival cannot be brought by committing injustice. Removing a man who is duly elected, close his chapter and bring in an usurper and you think things will be peaceful! Its like building a church on a false foundation. It will collapse. There cannot be peace were there is no justice. God will not like it.
“What I am fighting for is not really for me and my position, it is that I cannot see usurpers coming in to take what is not theirs. In 2010 November, we did election, my assistant, Rev. Okoroafor scored seven hundred and eighty-four votes. I scored, four thousand, seventy-five votes. By November this year, we will be going for another election. I want to ask, the coup they did and removed me is for what? That is why I say, everything is wrong. Â All the allegations they raised is watery. They have not been able to say what I did to warrant the coup to suspend me. the GS bemoaned”
It would be recalled that the Assistant General Superintendent, Rev. Chidi Okoroafor, had hatched a coup to ought the General Superintendent on March 6, 2014 which has inflicted crisis in the leadership of the church.
