Kidnapped Bayelsa Commissioner’s sister regains freedom

The elder sister of the Bayelsa state Commissioner for Sports, Mrs. Joyce Ebua who was kidnapped last week by unknown gun men has been released.

Ebua,who is 60 years old was said to be released by her captors at about 12.30 am yesterday, even as a family relation of the Obodors who pleaded anonymity claimed no ransom was paid.

The victim was kidnapped by some gunmen at her Oloibiri residence in Ogbia local government of the state at about 8.55 pm on March 13 .

Contacted,the Commissioner for Sports,Mr.Mitema Obodor confirmed  the release of his sister and said no ransom was paid to secure her freedom, adding that some officials of the State Security Service(SSS) supported in the release of her sister.

It was gathered that the gunmen shot sporadically to scare any intruder before whisking off the woman to an unknown destination.

Also, ,the Police Public Relations Officer in the state,Alex Akhigbe (DSP) confirmed the release of Mrs.Joyce Ebua,but said the Police authorities were not involved in the incident.

Akhigbe said the Police were not carried along by the victim’s relation on the process that led to her freedom

Bayelsans have become apprehensive over the rising cases of kidnapping in the state especially in Ogbia local government area, home town of President Jonathan which has experienced three kidnap incidents in the last one month.
