About four persons have been killed when two warring cult groups engaged each other in fierce battle in Obosi, Idemili North council area of Anambra state even as police said they have made some arrest in connection with the incident.
247ureports.com gathered that the cold war between the two unidentified cult groups came to limelight at the weekend when two persons suspected to be members of the opposing cult group were allegedly gunned down by their rivals at Ozuda market in Obosi community.
According to a source who did not want his name in print, the incident occurred when the two warring cult groups clashed in a function which led to open confrontation that later resulted to bloodshed. The source said that during the clash, dangerous weapons including sophisticated weapons like fire arms were freely used by the suspected cultists which left no fewer than four persons dead and scores injured.
Though the Anambra state police command through the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka swiftly said only two persons were killed during the cult war, it was also gathered that the main cause of the war was power play over who controls the revenue from the sale of communal lands by the warring factions in Obosi.
The Anambra state police image maker however disclosed that some people have been arrested in connection with the incident, adding that efforts were being intensified to arrest all fleeing members of the warring cult groups and urged the members of the public and Obosi community to help the police with useful information that could lead to their arrest.
Also, the traditional ruler of Obosi community, Igwe Chidubem Iweka condemned the attack on innocent citizens by the factions of the cult groups and said efforts were being made to bring the suspected members of the cult groups to justice while assuring the people of the community of adequate security of lives and property.
