The chairman of Organisation and Mobilisation Committee of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) in the South West, Prince Buruji Kashamu
yesterday described the plan by the former speaker of the House of
Representatives, Dimeji Bankole to contest the governorship election
of Ogun State on the party’s platform in 2015 as a “joke.”
Kashamu who is also the party’s financier in Ogun State said there are
no fewer than 660 members of the group loyal to former President
Olusegun Obasanjo that has returned to the Chief Bayo Dayo-led legally
constituted state executive of the PDP.
He said that the current attempt by Bankole to by-pass the legally
recognised executive of the PDP in the state would not succeed.
A faction of the PDP in Ogun State loyal to the former minister of
commerce, Senator Jubril Martins-Kuye had over the weekend adopted the
former speaker as its standard bearer in the 2015 governorship
election in the state.
But the party’s chief mobiliser in the South West said rather than the
former speaker to consult the authentic leaders of the PDP in Ogun
State, he had been making strenuous efforts to secure the backing of
the party’s national secretariat and the Presidency.
Kashamu spoke shortly after over 3000 members of the ANACOWA
Motorcycle Riders Association, the Labour Party and the All
Progressives Congress(APC) in Sagamu and 210 others from the Ijebu
North APC and LP defected to the PDP in Ijebu Igbo.
He stated that the former speaker who had not been participating in
the affairs of the party for a long time should have consulted the
authentic party exco and leaders in Ogun State.
