No fewer than twenty-six persons were confirmed dead on 14th February at about 4.45pm in an accident that occurred at the junction of the popular Oji-river market along old Oji-river- Onitsha expressway,Enugu.
An eye witnessed revealed that the accident inflicted various degrees of injuries to passersby while properties were equally damaged.
It was gathered that the accident occurred when a lorry conveying gravel allegedly failed brake,lost control and rammed into the market at the peak of trading activities.
Meanwhile,the Police Public Relations Officer,PPRO,of Enugu Police command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, has assured that,” investigations have commenced with a view to finding out the actual death toll as well as number of injured persons. We will unravel the likely cause of the accident during our investigations”.
The remains of affected victims has been deposited at a nearby mortuary for identification and claims by their relatives.
