The Sullivan Chime administration in Enugu has continued to clampdown on opposition political parties in Enugu. Recently, governor Chime connived with the Enugu state electoral commission to disqualify all the opposition candidates in the local government area elections in the state (thus making PDP candidates from councilors to chairmen unopposed in the 17 Local government council.
The clamp down on opposition parties took another dimension in Enugu on Saturday as armed men suspected to be Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) thugs hijacked and burnt the All Progressives Congress, APC, membership register.
Isaac Nwoye, the factional PDP chairman in Udi led the thugs personally to disrupt everything. The thugs then dumped the APC register and set it on fire.
The 15 armed thugs therefore disrupted the exercise of the APC membership registration at the 9th Mile Corner in Udi LGA.
Incidentally, Udi is the home town of Governor Sullivan Chime, who is currently outside the country as a result of his cancer relapse. Governor Chime refused to hand over to his deputy before the travel. His deputy is said to be a strong supporter of the deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who is Chime’s political arch-nemesis. Governor Chime and Ike Ekweremadu came from the same Enugu West senatorial district and both are eyeing the senate seat under the platform of PDP in the 2015 elections.
Recently, the poultry farm of the deputy governor was destroyed by the state governor. The instructions for the demolition of the poultry, according to the deputy governor, came from no one but the all powerful Mrs. Ifeoma Nwobodo (Chief of Staff to Sulivan Chime). Ifeoma Nwobodo came from the same senatorial district as the deputy governor and she is eyeing the senatorial seat of Enugu east.
