Former Governor Of Zamfara Yariman Bakura To Be Arraigned March 8th 2014 For Armed Robbery

Justice Bello Tukur Gummi of Zamfara State High Court 4 set aside Thursday the 20th of February 2014 for the formal arraignment of former governor of Zamfara state Senator Ahmad Sani Yariman Bakura on eight count charges including armed robbery and attempt to commit murder.

But the arraignment procedure could not be formalized on the ground that the defense counsel Barrister Sani Katu esq, Insisted that the prosecution team need to file each charge in a separate sheet to avoid experiencing anomalies during the trial.

Though the prosecution counsel who represented the Inspector General of Police in the case Barrister Torugbene insisted that the procedure in filing arraignment notice is in order adding that whether filing in separate or collective sheets the essence is to get the charges very clear to the accused person.

Though both side did not agree on the subject matter, the presiding judge Mr Bello Tukur Gummi after a break of about one and a half hours, ruled that the prosecution has perfectly filed his charges and did not erred in any way.

After the ruling the defense counsel Barrister Sani Katu further urged the court to fix another date for the arraignment as the day’s time has already being ex hosted.

Justice Gummi adjourned the matter till 8th of March 2014 for the arraignment.

Senator Ahmad Rufai Sani Zamfara former governor and twenty nine others are to face eight count charges that borders on armed robbery, criminal conspiracy and attempt to murder Ibrahim Shehu a house member representing Gusau-Tsafe federal constituency after inviting him for a reconciliation meeting scheduled to hold the state presidential lodge gusau.

The law maker according the charge sheets was allegedly ambushed while about to attend a meeting summoned by the former governor to reconcile him with the serving governor of Zamfara Abdul’azeez Yari Abubakar.

It was also alleged that his money and other valuable items worth millions of naira have been seized while his official house of assembly vehicle have been smashed by some mobs allegedly hired by the senator and his loyalists.

At the today’s proceeding, Senator Ahmad Sani and remaining other twenty nine accused persons were personally in court after receiving their notice of arraignment.
