The Independent Corrupt Practice Commission,ICPC, yesterday in Enugu staged a road-walk to commemorate this year’s world anti-corruption day.
Officials of ICPC and other critical stakeholders in the war against corruption in the country clad in white T-shirt and Black trousers marched through major streets of the Coal-city chanting anti-corruption songs even as they admonished the public fervently to eschew corruption in their daily lives.
Placards bearing inscriptions that says,”corruption kills the economy, join the fight against corruption” dotted the crowd that thronged the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, rallying point of the exercise.
Addressing newsmen at the rally,the Zonal Director, ICPC, South-east zone, Mr. Aroah Udonisi urged Nigerian, “to join hands with the commission in its fight against corruption which is the bane of our backwardness.
“Corruption stifles development, jeopardizes the future of our children and above all,entrench impunity into the system”.
While frowning at the impact of corruption in the society, the Commissioner for Human Capital and Poverty Reduction, Enugu State, Mr. Godwin Ogenyi, posited that,”corruption is the bane of our development efforts which breeds exclusion and widens the gap between the haves and haves not. All forms of corrupt vices should be fought frontally inorder to ensure a better society for our youths.
“This campaigns should be sustained and carried out daily to halt the frustration that has ruined so many of our youths as a result of corrupt tendencies”.
