The Ugbo Community in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State has totally dissociated itself from a malicious online article by their son, SKC Ogbonnia on the development projects attracted to Ugbo and Enugu West Senatorial District by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, saying it neither represented the situation on ground in Ugbo and the Senatorial District.
Speaking during a visit to the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu in his Mpu country home, the leader of the community’s delegation, Chief Clement Ogbonnaya who said the people of Ugbo would forever remain grateful to the Senator for the numerous projects he attracted to Ugbo community including electricity, water, roads and other infrastructures which have greatly transformed the community, regretted the activities of their son.
Chief Ogbonnaya said: “We frown at the continuous and unwarranted attacks on your person by our own son despite all you have done and continue to do for our community and the entire Enugu West. The Ugbo community have had cause in the past to issue a statement roundly condemning SKC Ogbonnia’s excesses, but is clear that these are deliberate acts of mischief. We want to urge you to ignore him and continue with your good work in Ugbo and Enugu State because he is entirely on his own. We totally denounce such mischief ”
In his brief response, the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu assured the people that nobody could come between the good relationship he had with the community or distract him from his well-focused agenda of improving the lives of his constituents and Nigerians in general.
The Deputy President of the Senate said he would ensure that ongoing Federal Government projects in the Senatorial District were completed while also attracting more developmental projects in 2014 to ensure that all parts of the Senatorial District enjoyed federal presence in one way or the other.
He however called on communities to help secure amenities attracted to their areas to avoid vandalisation of any kind.
Meanwhile, a youth leader in Awgu Local Government Area, Comrade Osita Anih has also added his voice to the condemnations trailing the SKC Ogbonnia’s claims, describing it a “satanic script and show of ignorance”.
He said: “From what he wrote, it is very clear that he is not on ground and does not also understand how government runs because nobody gives any Senator or Honourable Member money to execute projects. Rather, those who have the clout, goodwill and experience get Federal Government to intervene in areas of needs in their constituencies.
“The document he referred to is a compilation of competed and ongoing projects as well as those captured in the 2013 National Budget. For instance, Enugu West is the only Senatorial District in the entire country with National Youth Development Centre in all the Local Government Areas. Work just started on the last Centre in Iwolo in Ezeagu. Work is going on at fast pace on the N11.6 Billion Nenwe-Odume-Uburu Road, among others.
“It is regrettable therefore that while other people in the Diaspora are awarding scholarships, bringing foreign investors and partners to develop and add value to their communities, SKC Ogbonnia has only nuisance value to show for his long stay in the U.S.A”.
Comrade Anih who spoke in an interview in Awgu said SKC Ogbonnia was a frustrated attention seeker and a never-do-well who sees nothing good in others.
He challenged Mr. SKC Ogbonna to name members of his project monitoring team as there was no such team in the first place.
“SKC Ogbonnia cannot be in the U.S.A and tell lies about what is happening at home because as far as we are concerned, he is a fugitive who is not in good terms with anybody and the youth of Enugu West advise him to come home and face his kinsmen and community, rather than parade himself as an investigator that he is not”, he added.
