The All Progressive Youth League (APYL) has warned members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives against any attempt to destabilise the leadership of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal and the entire House in an attempt to ensure that the PDP is not relegated to minority in the House.
In a press release signed by APYL President, Taiwo Ayedun, the group cautioned the PDP lawmakers to desist from using disruptive strategies to discredit the Speaker of the House and consequently destabilising the House of Representative, because of President Goodluck Jonathan’s alleged 2015 ambition.
“We call on all PDP lawmakers to tow the path of honour by allowing democracy to speak and determine the tide of change in governance. The PDP has maintained majority in same House since 1999 without any other minority group crying foul or disrupting the system; if now the tide is changing by democratic trend, the PDP as a party and all its lawmakers should welcome the development, go back to the drawing board, do more for the nation, perform creditably well and stage a come-back in a democratic manner to reclaim the powers that are already being lost due to poor performance as a ruling party for the past 14 years of Nigeria’s democracy,” the statement reads.
“If the PDP lawmakers hatches the plot to put the House of Representatives in a stand-still and force it to close in an attempt to prevent the imminent change in the House leadership, the nation will soon be heading for anarchy and we the youths will not hesitate to defend the change with all might embedded in us as young people.
“We believe strongly that the Rt. Hon. Speaker has performed credibly well and any attempt to pass a ‘vote of no confidence’ on him to bring commotion and put House in disarray will be disastrous for lawmakers involved and will be vehemently resisted by the youth.” The statement read further.
“Finally, we want to charge every party and politicians affected by the tide of change in the merger process to show maturity and play by the rule of the game. If the PDP lawmakers hatches yet another unpopular agenda on behalf of the party in the House at this crucial time, the party will be losing its last drop of integrity; and in that case, Nigerians and young people in particular will not hesitate to call a mass protest in condemnation of the undemocratic principles of the party,” the statement added.
