‘’In Obiano’s case, the destructive falsehood, propelled by the APC was put to rest by our incontrovertible investigation grounded in the provisions of the Electoral Act of 2010 (section 13 (1) (2)( 3) (4)). A High Court sitting in Otuocha, Anambra State had few days ago affirmed our position by ruling that Obiano did not involve in double voter registration. Obiano’s failed accusers wanted to turn our laws upside down by punishing him solely on “actus rea”( alleged discovery of two data of his in Lagos and Anambra) without finding out further why the two data exist (mens reus).’’
The above is an extract from a recent statement issued by Mr Umegbalasi, Chairman of the Board of International Society for Civil Liberties & the Rule of Law (Intersociety) a near faceless ,but noisy organisation that lost its focus of pursuit of human rights and embarked on making easy money from the government of the day in Anambra State from ‘cash being thrown like candies’.
So far the above statement form INTERSOCIETY on (Willie) Obiano is the closest admission from the APGA to which Mr Emeka Umeagbalasi and Intersociety belong, that Obiano’s name appears TWICE in the voters register of the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) and we commend them.
However, the admission is coming after very alert Nigerians and true human rights organisations had gone to great length and made tremendous sacrifice to discover and publish the particulars of the two registrations.
Umeagablasi now cleverly shifts the thrust of his argument to ‘why the two names exist ‘and not that Obiano‘s ‘name appears only once’as earlier claimed.
None the less it is necessary to correct the impression created by Umeagbalasi’s vitriolic attack on APC which can only come from a bitter opponent, not a neutral human rights organisation with focus on civil liberties. APC does neither propels ‘destructive falsehood’, nor any falsehood at all. We are however, guided by principle and unwavering commitment to our ideals as a party ready to give better leadership for Anambra State.
In the first place, whether Umegbalasi appreciates it or not, the double registration reality of Wilie Obiano was unearthed by APGA members. But once in the public domain, APC has shown characteristic interest in maintaining the spirit and letters of the Electoral Act 2010, the Criminal Code prevalent in Anambra State and Nigeria. To that extent, we called for an investigation and prosecution of Obiano if such is true. Now it has been discovered to be true and we have no problem repeating that call more emphatically.
It is not an accident that APC never called for the disqualification of Obiano for strategic reasons. Rather we asked for his investigation, arrest and prosecution.
APC’s highly credible candidate Senator Chris Nwabueze Ngige, with the support of Ndi Anambra who have shown overwhelming love and support is capable of defeating any candidate in the Anambra State gubernatorial race in a free and fair election, – Particularly the type that does not know what immunity of a governor is, or the relationship between State Police and true federalism, but prefers to beg Abuja and Washington for money.
We take this chance to express our disgust at callousness and insensitivity which has surrounded the conduct of Mr Obiano, who accompanied Gov Obi to an worship centre in Uke, Idemili North Local Government Area (LGA) in an impromptu political campaign visit in the dead of the night, and was present when his security apparati and those of the governor combined to teargas and stampede innocent worshippers, leading to the death of 61 so far.
Yet Obano turned round to deny attending the event.
And, rather than mourn as declared by the government controlled by his party, Obiano chose to celebrate birthdays, campaign in Isu Aniocha Aniocha, Enugwu-Ukwu, and claim false endorsements in Agulu Lake Bridge for those who were deceived into attending a mirage commissioning ceremony.
We are concerned that neither Obi nor Obiano thought the flag of the state should not fly at half-mast in the period of the mourning, nor carried out any activity to show that mourning was taking place beyond a deceptive announcement by a guilt-stricken governor to cover his tracks in the bizarre mass-murder of Anambra State citizens.
We are even more shocked that till now, the names of the victims have not been published in a state that claims to have a government.
We can only at this point urge Ndi Anambra to rise and end their agony next week by voting overwhelmingly for the APC candidate Senator Dr Chris Ngige to re-orient the state with his quantum and quality of cognate experience and track reduced that cannot bit count.
